October 18, 2011. The Jefferson volleyball season came to an end tonight in the second round of the state tournament. In front of the largest crowd in Lady Dragon volleyball history, Hebron Christian edged out the Lady Dragons in a 5 set match. In game one Jefferson came from behind to win 26-24. In game two and three missed serves (17 on the night) hurt the Jefferson squad. Jefferson had leads in both games but the usually strong serving Dragons hit several into the net and Hebron clawed back. Both game 2 and 3 had scores of 22-25 each. In game 4 the lady dragons got their serving back on track and rode the momentum to a 25-19 win. Game 5 opened with the scoring going back and forth until Taylor Cramsey got up to serve and knocked in 3 aces to give the Lady Dragons an early lead. Hebron would not go away capitalizing on every off speed ball the Dragons gave them and rallied to win the deciding game 12-15. Jefferson closes its season at 32-10. "I can't be more proud of a group of young girls. This group of seniors will be remembered for a long time and future teams will be held up against their measure."

October 8, 2011. Jefferson finished the area tournament today with a runner-up trophy. The Lady Dragons started today off with a 0-2 loss to Athens Academy ( 15-25, 20-25) That loss placed the dragons in the loser's bracket against North Oconee. Jefferson jumped on the Titans in Game One but the Titans fought back in Game Two to force a Game Three that was one for the ages. Jefferson came out on top in Game Three (25-13, 20-25, 25-22). That win assured the Lady Dragons with a home court advantage on Wednesday in the opening round of the State Tournament. It also set up a rematch with Athens Academy for the Area Championship. Jefferson played extremely well but lost to a very talented ACAD team 1-3 in the best of 5 match. (17-25, 18-25, 25-22, 16-25). Overall, it was a very rewarding day for our program and we reached a couple of our goals. The Dragons brought their record to 31-9 overall and placed Amanda Daniel and Cassie Metcalf on the All-Tournament Team.

October 6, 2011. Jefferson played a marathon match tonight beating a very talented George Walton Academy team in the quarter-finals of the winners bracket of the Area 8 A/AA tournament. It was a match filled with long rallies and numerous lead changes. Jefferson took the lead in Game One on solid serving and won the first game 25-17 with Eden Starnes recording 5 kills. In Game Two, George Walton won 27-29. GW refused to let the ball hit the floor as they ran down ball after ball way off the court. Every point seemed to cross the net 5 and 6 times. In Game Three, the drama continued with numerous ties and lead changes with the Lady Dragons edging George Walton 26-24. Cassie Metcalf solidified the defense while Taylor Cramsey and Sarah Wood combined for 10 kills (5 each). The win places Jefferson in the semi finals Saturday morning at 11 AM vs. Athens Academy. The win also assures the Lady Dragon of their 4th straight trip to the state playoffs. The Lady Dragons are now 30-7 overall.

October 4, 2011. Jefferson came from behind in both games tonight to beat a very much improved Prince Avenue Christian team 25-16, 25-18 in the opening round of the Area 8 A/AA. Jefferson rallied behind solid serving from Eden Starnes and Cassie Metcalf and high percentage hitting from Starnes, Sarah Wood, and Savanna Holland.

September 29, 2011. Jefferson swept a tri-match tonight on Senior night by beating Jackson County 25-8, 25-21 and Athens Christian 25-11, 25-12. The win over Jackson County gave Jefferson a perfect 6-0 record in 8 A/AA North and its third season in a row going through the sub-area undefeated. Jefferson improved its season record to 29-7.
This group of seniors have left their mark on the Jefferson Volleyball program. They hold nearly every record that we keep track of.

September 25, 2011. Jefferson finished the Ampest Spikefest in Conyers this weekend with a 5-2 record and losing to Greenbrier in the tournament semi-finals 2-1 (23-25, 26-24, 9-15). The Semi-Final match was outstanding and was a true battle between two very good teams. In the end, the 20-3 Greenbrier Wolfpack edged out the spirited Lady Dragons. We competed hard all weekend with exceptional play from every player on the roster. You can't go to a tournament like this and be successfull without a solid team top to bottom.
Jefferson is now 23-7 overall 4-0 in the sub-area with a home quad match Tuesday, 9/27, with Tallulah Falls, Lakeview Academy, and Morgan County.

September 23, 2011. In Friday night action at the Ampest Spikefest in Conyers, Jefferson won our first match over AAAA Union Grove 25-18, 25-8. In a match that was tied 15-15 in Game One, the Lady Dragons turned up the heat with a serving barage and unbelievable hitting to take down the larger school. Jefferson had 8 aces and had 28 kills on only 56 attempts.

In the second match of the night, Jefferson fell to Savannah Country Day (ranked 10th in A/A) 25-21, 16-25, 8-15. Jefferson had strong hitting throughout the match but struggled passing early in Games 2 and 3. We played very well but not well enough to win. Country Day was very fundamentally solid but we held our own. This tournament is all about challenging ourselves and we had a tough test in both these matches.

September 22, 2011. Jefferson traveled to Rabun County Thursday for a double-header with the host school. The first match was a sub-area match which Jefferson won 25-9, 25-10. In the second match, Jefferson won 25-15, 25-18. After the first match we made the decision to play some of our reserves who work so hard in practice every day. The two wins bring our overall record to 18-5, 4-0 in the sub area.

September 20, 2011. Jefferson traveled to North Oconee and won a pair of matches. In the opener, Jjefferson took care of Athens Christian 25-10, 25-14. In the second match, Jefferson had a rematch with North Oconee. Jefferson lost the first game 23-25 but rallied to win the second game 25-11, and the third game 25-16. Jefferson was paced by Eden Starnes and Cassie Metcalfe hitting from the outside and their serving. Hannah Murphy came off the bench and played very well in a tough match.

September 17, 2011. Jefferson beat East Jackson Thursday with scores of 25-6, 26-24. In the first game, Jefferson jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. During the second game, East Jackson played very well and Jefferson had to come from behind for the victory. This was a very good sub-area match that allowed us to see all of our players compete.
In the second match, Jefferson beat Johnson High School 25-16, 25-17. Once again our starters did a great job while we had strong serving off the bench from Amanda Burgamy and solid front row play from Hannah Murphy.
Jefferson is now 14-5 and 3-0 in sub-area. Our next match is scheduled for Tuesday, 9/20 at North Oconee.

September 13, 2011. Jefferson split a pair of matches last night at Morgan County. In the opener, Jefferson lost to North Oconee 2-1 (24-26, 25-15, 23-25). The match featured numerous lead changes and long rallies. Jefferson suffered from inconsistant hitting in game 1 and 3.
In the night cap, Jefferson beat Morgan County 2-0 (25-14. 25-17). The Dragons jumped to an early lead and we were able to see some of our reserves play a good bit.

September 10, 2011. Jefferson traveled to the Georgia Challenge Tournament in Woodstock on Saturday. The Lady Dragons went 2-2 on the day winning the bronze bracket playoff. In pool play, Jefferson lost to Kell in the first match 1-2 (15-25, 25-15,12-15). In the second match, Jefferson lost to Lambert 1-2 also (27-25, 10-25, 12-15) Both opponents were from AAAA and were very talented.
Jefferson played great defense and learned alot about themselves as we improved against good competition. The two losses place the Lady Dragons in the Bronze playoff bracket. In the semi-final match, Jefferson knocked off Mundy's Mill 2-0 (25-14, 25-16). The finals of the bracket play pitted us against George Walton Academy. It was a battle from the beginning with Jefferson winning 2-1 (24-26, 25-21, 15-10).
Our record is now 11-4 overall 2-0 in the sub-area. We play on Tuesday of this week at Morgan County vs the host school and North Oconee.

September 8, 2011. It was an electric night in the Jefferson gym tonight with a great crowd dressed in pink to support awareness for breast cancer. During the second match vs. West Hall, our band came in and added a new dimension to the atmosphere. The Lady Dragons responded with two big wins. In the opener, Jefferson jumped out to an early lead in game one and played tough in game two to beat a very much improved East Hall team (25-12, 25-21).
In the second match, state-ranked West Hall was the opponent. The Lady Dragons played flawless volleyball in game one winning 25-3. West Hall rallied in game two taking a lead early but behind strong serving and relentless defense Jefferson bounced back to win 25-19. Both of these wins were against quality teams. Jefferson's record is now 9-2 overall and 2-0 in the sub-area. Our next match is Saturday at the Georgia Challenge in Marietta where we will face two AAAA teams, Kell and Lambert, in the morning pool play.

September 1, 2011. Jefferson traveled to Hebron Christian Thursday for a pair of matches. In the opener, Jefferson had an old-fashioned barn burner with the host school losing 1-2 (27-29, 25-19, 21-25). Taylor Cramsey (18 kills) and Amanda Daniel (24 assists) led the Jefferson attack. Eden Starnes and Cassie Metcalf were stellar on defense with 4 and 5 digs. Jefferson struggled serving throughout the match missing 14 serves in the 3 games. You can't give a good team like Hebron that many free points.
In the second match, Jefferson hung on to beat a solid Dacula team. 25-19, 25-23 Dacula was very scrappy and had a strong attack but the Lady Dragons' "refused to lose" attitude was the difference in the match. Cramsey, again, had double figures in kills (11) while the rest of the Jefferson offense was very balanced.
Taylor Cramsey set a new record last night for most kills in a match against Hebron with 18, breaking Stephanie Finchers record of 16 kills.
Also, Amanda Daniel broke her own record for assists in a single game with 13 in Game One against Hebron last night.

August 30, 2011. Jefferson volleyball traveled to Hart County yesterday for a pair of matches. We started the afternoon against state ranked Athens Academy. The match went down to the wire in both sets with Jefferson coming up just a little short in each. 22-25. 20-25.
Eden Starnes and Taylor Cramsey led the attack for the Lady Dragons recording 6 kills each. Amanda Daniel added 13 assists. Cassie Metcalfe and Savanna Holland added 4 and 3 kills respectively. The Jefferson girls were very focused and played as well as they ever have against the Spartans.
In the second match, Jefferson fought off a very talented and much improved Hart County team 25-21, 25-19. The attack was balanced with Cramsey leading the way with 6 kills. Metcalf, Daniel, Starnes, and Holland all recording kills. The key to the match was serving and defense in the second game.
Overall it was a very good day for us and we rose to the challenge in both matches. Next up for the Lady Dragons is a trip to Hebron Christian with Dacula rounding out the tri-match.

August 25, 2011. Jefferson traveled to Lakeview Academy to open up this season's sub-area schedule. The Lady Dragons got out to a quick start in Game 1 but had to fight off a mid game run to eventually win 25-16. In Game 2, Jefferson won 25-14. Stats for the match against Lakeview were as follows:

In the second match of the evening the Lady Dragons routed Prince Avenue 25-3 in Game 1 behind strong serving from Amanda Daniel and Amanda Flowers. In Game 2, Prince Avenue won 24-26 and Jefferson came back in Game 3 to win 25-13 behind strong hitting from Taylor Cramsey and Savanna Holland.

August 23, 2011. Jefferson traveled to North Hall today for a best of five match against the Trojans. Jefferson won the match 3-1 with game scores of 25-19, 25-12, 16-25, 25-14. The Lady Dragons stuck to their game plan and played very well all day. North Hall has a very good program and was ranked pre-season in the state top 10. I am very proud of the girls today with exceptional play from our Libero Savannah Bogue.

August 16, 2011. In the first match, Jefferson defeated George Walton Academy 27-25, 25-13. We got off to a slow start in game one but made a comeback to finally take the lead at 23-22. In the second game, we led from the beginning and the outcome was not in doubt.
